The wind whispers through the tall South Georgia pines here in Americus, carrying a resinous scent that feels like home. It’s a fragrance wrapped in both joy and sorrow — a reminder of the love that built this place and the loss that shaped it.

We are Mary and Dan, founders of Mother’s Love Homestead, and our story is stitched together with threads of faith, resilience, and the enduring love of our mothers.

Where It All Began

In 2019, our world shifted when we lost Dan’s mother — a woman whose laugh was contagious and whose heart welcomed everyone she met. Her absence left a silence that seemed impossible to fill. Yet in that quiet, we felt her gentle nudge: create something… nurture something… carry my love forward.

We started simply — a few chickens scratching in the yard, a small garden patch, and our first batch of goat milk soap made in the kitchen. The creamy lather felt like her gentle touch. The goats, with their playful antics, brought healing laughter. We learned to make tallow lotion to share comfort the way she had. The garden began to bloom, and the rhythm of tending and harvesting gave us a renewed sense of purpose.

Another Loss, a Deeper Root

In 2024, we faced heartbreak again when Mary’s mother — a beacon of steadfast love and fierce devotion — went home to the Lord. The grief came like a tidal wave. But through it, we saw her strength reflected everywhere: in the goats nuzzling our hands, in the chickens pecking the soil, in the steady rise of sourdough bread. That bread, with its slow and patient process, became a living metaphor for the lessons she taught about perseverance, faith, and love.

Our Sanctuary

Today, Mother’s Love Homestead is more than a place — it’s a sanctuary under the pines. Here, family and friends gather. The next generation learns to care for animals, grow vegetables, and work with their hands. The scent of goat soap and fresh-baked bread mingles with laughter, prayer, and shared stories.

Our faith in God is our foundation. It’s what steadies us in loss and fuels our joy in community. Every bar of soap, jar of lotion, loaf of sourdough, and basket of eggs is crafted with care — each one a tribute to the mothers who shaped our lives and whose love still guides us.
