The Heart of Our Bread

A Living Legacy

Every loaf we bake starts with Myrtle — our beloved sourdough starter, named after Mama Beth. She's fed daily with water from our own homestead well and organic flour, and she's been with us since the very beginning.

Myrtle is bubbly, active, and full of life — just like the woman she's named after. She's the reason our bread has that deep, tangy flavor and perfect open crumb that our customers can't stop talking about.

Starter FAQ

What is a sourdough starter?

A sourdough starter is a live culture of wild yeast and bacteria that you feed with flour and water. It's what makes sourdough bread rise naturally — no commercial yeast needed. Myrtle is our starter, and she's been going strong for years.

What's the difference between live and dehydrated starter?

Live starter (local pickup only) is active and ready to bake with right away — just feed it and go. Dehydrated starter is shelf-stable and ships nationwide. You'll rehydrate it over a few days before baking. Both come from Myrtle.

How do I care for my starter once I get it?

Feed it daily with equal parts flour and water (by weight). Keep it at room temperature if baking regularly, or in the fridge if baking weekly. Our Sourdough Starter Care Guide (available on Stan Store) walks you through everything step by step.

Can I learn to bake sourdough from scratch?

Absolutely! Our Beginner Sourdough Bootcamp on Skool is designed for complete beginners. Pre-recorded lessons, the overnight method, and a supportive community. One-time payment, lifetime access.

Where can I get the dehydrated starter?

Our dehydrated starter ships nationwide via our Etsy shop. For live starter (local pickup in Americus), just text us at 229-591-4925.
